Mean: A 14-year-old girl was taken into custody by juvenile authorities after deputies learned she was threatening to “kick the butts” of other students who had told on her for skipping class, including her own sister, Tuesday. The girl allegedly had been recruiting teens from Youngstown, Toronto and East Liverpool to help her exact revenge.

What could go wrong: A Bergholz woman said she parked a rental car outside a friend’s house in New Philadelphia with the keys in the ignition and left his house on foot to go search for mushrooms in the woods and when she returned it was gone, Tuesday. She initially believed her friend might have borrowed the car, but when a friend dropped him off he told her the car was still there when he’d left and he had no idea where it was or who took it. It’s now been listed as stolen.

Cited: James W. Thompson, 38, 73 Chapel Hill Road, Mingo Junction, driving under suspension, speeding and no seat belt, Monday.

Shots fired: A couple in the 300 block of Murphy Avenue reported finding bullet holes in two of their vehicles, Tuesday. They told police their children had heard what sounded like six gunshots in the general area of their residence, and that night they noticed a hole in the rear bumper of their Toyota Camry and two more holes on the driver side of the Honda Odyssey — one entering the driver’s side headlight and traveling under the hood of the vehicle, the other entering through the center of the driver side door and traveling through the interior of the vehicle. Police said based on the trajectory of the rounds entering the vehicles, it appeared the shpts were fired either from Murphy Field or Plum Street.

Blame game:A George Street resident told police a man was arguing with household members and had threatened another man and spit on her, Tuesday. The man denied spitting on her, and said he only threatened the other man because he’d threatened him first. Nobody wanted to press charges so they decided to separate for the night.

Targeted: A North Sixth Street resident told police she locked her door and ran to the store, only to get a message from a neighbor that her living room window had been broken out, Tuesday. She said she returned to find her television had also been destroyed. The woman believes the culprit was an individual who was in her house.

Crowded: A Steele Avenue resident told police a neighbor put a small piece of fencing between their houses so he would have trouble getting his lawn mower into his back yard, Tuesday. The officer removed the fencing and leaned it against the neighbor’s house.

Issues: A woman who was walking downtown with the father of her child told police he became agitated and tried to strike her in the head and face, Tuesday. When he couldn’t make contact, she said he grabbed at her shirt, but police said there were no tears or other indicators that there’d been a problem.

A couple declined to pursue charges after a physical confrontation resulting in minor injuries to both in the 700 block of Lawson Avenue, Tuesday. Police said the man and woman involved do not live together nor do they share children.

A resident in the 1600 block of Roosevelt Avenue said someone stole the catalytic converter off her daughter’s vehicle and tried to do the same to hers, Tuesday.

Code issues: Notices of violation were sent to the owners/occupants of properties at 1925 Columbia Ave., 526 Buena Vista Blvd., 424 Buena Vista Blvd., and 212 Harvard Ave., all for high grass/weeds.

Cited: Valinda Wilson, 42, 1417 Oakgrove Ave., Steubenville, dog-at-large; Kathryn E. Chaytor, 38, 407 Colonial Drive, Apt. 45, Steubenville, no operator’s license, assured clear distance ahead.
